√ Engine Warning (Stop/Shutdown Engine) on Instrument Panel (On-Highway Trucks)

SPN632 FMI4
-Fault Codes: Red Warning Lamp (Stop/Shutdown Engine)
-Cummins Signature/ISX-15 Engine (PACCAR/ Kenworth)

How to Connecting CUMMINS Engines using Cummins INSITE Software.

(2). Open Fault Codes window on the Viewbar, to check the Active Codes - Status.
SPN 632 - FMI 4 (Fault Code 254).
Figure 1.4 - Fault Code 0254 (Overview)

(4). Check the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid.
Figure 1.5 - Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid
a). Check for corrosion on the solenoid post (No corrosion found).
b). Check the supply voltage at the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid.
#Condition: Disconnect the actuator harness from the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid, and turn keyswitch ON.
#Action: Check the supply voltage at the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid.
-Measure the voltage from the Fuel Shutoff control wire connectors on the harness side to engine block ground, measured actual is 21.56 VDC (OK). But when the actuator harness connected, measured actual is 3.6 VDC only (indicated: short circuited), it should have the same voltage (21.56 VDC) when the harness is connected to the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid.

c). Check the actuator harness and the ECM connector pins.
#Conditions: Turn keyswitch OFF, and disconnect the actuator harness connector from the ECM.
#Action: Check the actuator harness and the ECM connector pins for the following:
-Loose connector
-Corroded pins
-Bent or broken pins
-Pushed back or expanded pins
-Moisture in or on the connector
-Dirt or debris in or on the connector pins
-Missing or damaged connector seals
-Wire insulation damage
-Connector shell broken.

d). Check for open circuit
#Conditions: Turn keyswitch OFF, disconnect the actuator harness from the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid, and disconnect the actuator harness connector from the ECM.
#Action: Check for an open circuit.
-Measure the resistance from pin 33 of the actuator harness to the fuel shutoff control wire.
-Less than 10 ohms (OK).

e). Check for a short circuit from pin to pin.
#Conditions: Turn keyswitch OFF, disconnect the actuator harness from the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid, and disconnect the actuator harness connector from the ECM.
#Action: Check for a short circuit from pin to pin.
-Measure the resistance from pin 33 of the actuator harness connector to all other pins in the connector.
-More than 100k ohms (OK).

f). Measure the voltage from the ECM.
#Conditions: Disconnect the actuator harness connector from the ECM, and turn keyswitch ON.
#Action: Measure the voltage from the ECM.
-Measure the voltage at the ECM from pin 33 of the actuator harness connector port to engine block ground, measured actual is 21.56 VDC (OK).

g). Check the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid resistance.
#Conditions: Turn keyswitch OFF, and disconnect the actuator harness from the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid.
#Action: Check the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid resistance.
-Measure the resistance from the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid to engine block ground.
  • 1 to 5 ohms for 6-VDC solenoids
  • 6 to 15 ohms for 12-VDC solenoids
  • 24 to 50 ohms for 24-VDC solenoids, measured actual is 6-8 ohms (Not OK).
  • 42 to 80 ohms for 32-VDC solenoids
  • 46 to 87 ohms for 36-VDC solenoids
  • 92 to 145 ohms for 48-VDC solenoids
  • 315 to 375 ohms for 74-VDC solenoids
  • 645 to 735 ohms for 115-VAC solenoids

h). Replace the Fuel Shutoff Valve Solenoid.
-with P/N 3408421.
